Nikki Wright, was born with fashion in her blood as she recollects her first design craving at the age of 4, where she cut up her own clothes to make dresses for her favourite doll. It didn’t take long before family members were asking the young designer to create unique looks that would help her hone technical skill and develop creative aesthetics. Blossoming into a teenager during the 1990’s in London, the vibrant local arts and fashion scene strongly influenced her design outlook, drawing inspiration from style icons such as Madonna and designers Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano and Alexander McQueen.
In 2008 ‘NIKKI WRIGHT’ went back to her design roots and passion to set up an atelier in Knightsbridge, only steps away from Harrods and Harvey Nichols to create bespoke exclusive fashion to the international jet set who were sold by her signature designs incorporating structure in bold rich fabrics with attention to lines that extenuates the female figure. The brand plays upon the designer’s Caribbean roots and vibrancy with a twist of the British punk movement to produce timeless pieces that push boundaries and strive for individuality. Nikki then took steps to legally register the company. The brand name ‘NICKI WRIGHT’ was incorporated as a limited company in 2013. The ‘Nicki Wright’ women is described as someone ‘that struts to her own beat and does not conform’.
In 2016, Nicki Wright is getting ready to take her brand global by launching her first ready-to-wear collection that is dedicated to her homeland Jamaica.
